Every year around this time, people ask me, what you are doing for christmas. Then i tell them i am a DEIST and i dont believe in that stuff. Then you see their mouth drop and they can’t believe it. "You dont celebrate christmas?"
AAAH Ignorance, never seems to go away.
I’m with you I wouldn’t celebrate christmas if it wasn’t for my 7 year old.Her dad and I can not wait for her to turn 18 so we don’t have to do christmas anymore.

i get that too.
i’m buddhist. i dont mind christmas, and i give my friends and family gifts but i dont actually celebrate christmas
dont take it so personally. its the norm for people to celebrate christmas, so they automatically assume you’re celebrating it too.

I’ve given up trying to explain why I don’t, so just say that I’ll be with my family.

Because most people just can’t accept the fact that not everyone is exactly like them! My mother being a perfect example. . .

I know, right? They think you don’t believe in Jesus or God if you don’t celebrate.

It’s pretty much the major holiday, according to Christians, and so they just assume everyone celebrates it. I’m a Christian, but I have noticed the ignorance, and think that’s it’s pretty unfair for people that celebrate Hannukah, Kwanzaa, or nothing at all.

cause christmas is such a big thing and it is a time for spending time with family,
ok think about your favorite footy team, the best one there is your talking to a close friend about them and they say who is that i haven’t heard of that team before?
you’d be surprised right?
well in a way its like that how can you not?

a lot of people still celebrate christmas because its a time to be with their family and exchange gifts, even though they don’t celebrate it. not celebrating christmas because you’re a deist is like saying you won’t eat meat because your scared of blood.
i’m not trying to force christmas on anyone.. its their loss not to be with their family. several close encounters with death recently have reminded me how fragile life is and how we cant waste it thinking about how we hate something when we could be out loving something else.
