They should have taken over the Maypole celebration instead of Yule… I agree.

A thoughtful god would have ensured such a major event occurred when the weather was nice all over the globe… lol

Because then we couldn’t hear the sleigh bells jingling. Oh, and Santa comes down the chimney–wouldn’t want that to be a soot-free experience, now would we?

Look it up: In agrarian societies, celebrations were held when the work in the fields was done or before it began. Early Spring, mid-Summer, late Fall and mid-Winter. Pagans are laying claim to all things agrarian and this is ridiculous.

Yeah, but I kinda like the white snow and christmas lights together. Oh wait, global warming, haven’t seen snow on christmas in quite a few years. Yep, lets make it a summer holiday.

It was an American idea, we needed Christmas in the Winter so we could stretch out the holiday seasons and boost the economy. And right now moving the Christmas season to Fourth of July season would just be suicide.

Since there was no real Jesus, there is really no point in celebrating an imagined and imaginary person’s birthday. In that sense, I agree with you — why not celebrate this imaginary person’s birthday at a time that is more convenient for everyone? But then no one has accused Christian leaders of being practical, have they.

yeah, too right, also to add to that, why didn’t Jesus was born in a 5***** hotel? Why, was he not born in time of Media and consumerism? Why Jesus did not make sure that the bible did not contradict its self?
Why Jesus did nt leave more concrete evidence of his existance?

the birth of Jesus was most likely in the spring…it was set up by the counsel of Christians to set December 25th…no one knows why for sure but some speculate to compete with Mithra-ism…summer would be nice…but we already have many in the summer…winter is a nice time…

Because they wanted a christian festival to take the place of the winter solstice celebrated by the pagans by decorating a tree, seeing their friends and families and giving each other presents.

    Helen is right
the christmas celebration came about when the Christian Church realized it was impossible to stop the pagan peoples celebrating the winter solstice .so instead they replaced it with a Christian celebration

all Christian celebrations came about for the exact same reason including other celebrations such as even halloween (the eve of all hallow aka all saints day )
