Because Jesus is the light of the world so someone decided to celebrate his birth during the darkest part of the year to remind us of that.

It was originally celebrated on that day to get Pagans to convert to Christianity. December 25th had long been a pagan holiday celebrating the Winter Solstice, on which they would eat, drink, and be merry. It was easier for the Christians to get them to convert if they let them keep their fun holiday, so they chose December 25th as the celebration for Jesus' birthday.

because early church leader moved it to coincide with the pagan yule to make it easier to force people to switch to christianity
