Easter was originally a pagan holiday like Christmas was. They celebrated the "new earth" (spring) and the birth of animal babies, etc. Eggs are a symbol of birth. ALSO, Good Friday is the day that Jesus died, and Easter Monday is the day that he rose from the grave. Jesus died shortly after Passover, which is just before Easter today.
