I really never understood the logic as to why most people that do not go to church, have no religious afffiliation, dispect god and his way feel they have the right to celebrate Christmas and Easter.
see YA! passim…. there were several hundred questions about this in november/december.
basically, I do not celebrate a religious holiday. I celebrate time with my family and a break from work.
I do not CARE if it’s called ‘Christmas’ or ‘Yule’ or even ’saturnalia’
I do not CARE if it’s called ‘Easter’ or ‘Oestre’ or even if its called ‘harry’s old socks’
Your petty religion does not interest me, I just like a party and presents and chocolate eggs
OK?

They’re pagan holidays. What makes you think YOU can celebrate Jesus on Easter and Christmas?

We call them Chreastians (combination of Christmas and Easter. I guess it’s because of the way they were brought up. Here, everyone celebrates Christmas and Easter regardless of religion. It’s cultural too.

We don’t think that we can, we can and do. What do you mean "right". It is my right to celebrate what I like, when I like and how I like. OK?
edit: I was going to go into the pagan origins thing, but I am fed up with explaining it.

I think those colored eggs; they are pretty. And the kids like the chocolate.
Both these things are pagan in origin. If the Pagans don’t mind, why should you?

Christmas and Easter are old pagan holidays that got taken over by Christianity in order to help mass-convert pagans much easier.
Do some research on "your" holidays next time so you don’t look so foolish.

They can because they have the right to. Additionally, these holidays are also cultural events. And with the pagan influences behind many of the practices, why shouldn’t they? What if you and I don’t see eye to eye on Easter even if we are both Christian. Should one of us give up the practice? No, it is for each to decide and not for us to judge.

Jesus didn’t invent those holidays, pagans did. Why do Christians celebrate these non-Christian holidays?

They weren’t originally christian. I like how Christians think they are being intelligent when they really just end up showing their ignorance.

The fact that both of these holidays were stolen from Pagans by Christians in the first place.
Christians do now own winter or spring ritualized celebrations. This is your ethnocentric world view speaking.
You have no right to dictate how others can behave, and you are not the authority on who is a real Christian.

1 – Those holidays were originally pagan, not christian
2 – Those holidays have become secularized
3 – People have a right to celebrate whatever holidays they like. Even if you’re not Jewish, you can celebrate Hannukah if you want to.
4 – Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll leave out all the christian parts, (because the christian parts are the boring parts).

this is their cultural heritage
people all over the world have cultures and traditions that were based of more primitive religious times
it’s only natural that after a society advances it forgets the primitive religious reason to the holiday and only the tradition remains…
just as Christmas was originally a pagan holiday and Easter was a Jewish holiday and in the christian area in Europe people still capt celebrating them… but changed them to the times they live in… so is today in the post modern area the holidays adopted to today involvement.
