Should True Christians celebrate Easter or the memorial of Christ death?

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2009 and filed under celebrate easter | 16 Comments »

What is Easter, how does it relate †o the ransom sacrifice?

Who attended the first Memorial or Lord’s Evening Meal?

Who attended the Passover the night of Jesus’ sentencing?

The Passover is the biblical anniversary that Christ died. Christ gave up his life as a ransom sacrifice. God in his turn raised Christ but on the basis that Jesus had fulfill his mission. Christ was beaten, scourged, impaled and treated as a criminal. This is what Christ endured before he died. Memorial is what is most important since we give thanks and appreciation of Christ who gave up his earthly life and so in obedience we observe what Christ commanded in Luke 22:19 during Last Evening Meal, "keep doing this in remembrance of me"

John 3:16
“For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.

The Passover (Nisan 14) for 2009 is on April 9th at sundown to April 10th sundown (Jews began their day at evening)

Who attended the first Memorial or Lord’s Evening Meal? All first century Christians would have just like Jehovah’s Witnesses continue today.

Who attended the Passover the night of Jesus’ sentencing?
The Last Evening Meal was attended by the 11 apostles since Judus Iscariot was sent away (to betray Christ). All Jews carried on the Passover tradition they have done before since the Exodus out of Egypt.

There is no such thing as a "true" Christian. You can choose other adjectives, like "devout" or "Bible-believing".

I assume your other questions should be prefaced with "According to the Bible…"

Celebration of Easter has nothing whatseoever to do with eggs its about remembering Jesus death and being thankful that Jesus had the guts and compassion to do what He did for people. I guess tru Christians think more about that than easter eggs and all sorts…

All Christians celebrate Easter, it changed the Sabbath to Sunday.
The Easter celebration or Triduum starts with Maundy Thursday.
We need to connect Passover, Crucifixion, & Resurrection together.

I am a Christian and to me Easter isn’t a big huge deal. Easter like Christmas is a pegan Holiday that has been brought to the Christian world, which I am not saying is good or bad, simply fact. Yes it is important that Jesus died and rose again for our sins. The Christian community takes more value in day He came out of the grave. I think the fact that He is coming back to earth should be the bigger focus. I’ve been told that Passover is more like what Christians should celebrate. I am not so sure.

Actually, the word "easter " is not in the bible, nor is "christmas"for that matter.

What we see in the word is that the believers in the Lord remembered His death and resurrection each time they came together. The broke bread from house to house, with exultation and simplicity of heart.
Each time they ate the bread and drank the wine, they declared not only His death, but they also remembered all His rich attainments.

    Acts 2:46
And day by day, continuing steadfastly with one accord in the temple and breaking bread from house to house, they partook of their food with exultation and simplicity of heart.

    1 Cor 11:26
For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup you declare the Lord’s death until He comes.

These celebrations ( as we do it today) have their source in pagan things and the early believers did not adhere to these practices. http://truediscernment.wordpress.com/2008/03/21/its-not-easter-its-resurrection-day/

But they DID have the Lord’s Supper each time they met together. How we need to be unloaded from all the "forms"and be restored back to what was from the beginning. So much damage has crept into the church to distract us from the simple, yet satisfying christian life.

True Christians should commemorate all three of the main events – The Last Supper, the Passion and the Resurrection. This has been the tradition of the Christian church for many centuries.

The festival called "Easter" by English speakers is the oldest Christian festival whose celebration can be traced back to within 100 years of Christ. Early Christians celebrated it either during the Jewish Passover – when the Bible tells us the events occurred – or on the Sunday afterwards – Sunday being dedicated as the regular celebration of the resurrection. The Church settled on the Sunday as the norm. Because of this relationship to the Passover, it is named in most languages after the Passover – words like Paques, Pascha and Pascua.

The method of working out when Passover or Easter should be celebrated was not settled until much later and, when it was, Jews and Christians came up with different answers. Neither can be certain that their answer matches precisely what would have been determined by the older methods – people used to come up with different dates in different countries.

The English name "Easter" is thought to be derived from the Anglo-Saxon name of the month of April, Eostur-monath, when it usually occurs. It is believed by some that the name of the month is in turn derived from the name of a goddess, but this is doubtful as the goddess is not attested in any other literature.

a] memorial of Christ death is a JW thing and don’t confuse with catholics
b] Catholics celebrate passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Resurrection is one of the holy events in catholicism.
…Easter happens when disciples of Jesus in community, empowered by the Holy Spirit, worship and praise the Father for the marvels he has done in and through Jesus. Yes, Easter happens when they boldly and fearlessly proclaim “that God has made both Lord and Messiah the Jesus” who was crucified (Acts 2:36), when disciples share their resources with one another not only to sustain the mission of evangelization, but also to care for one another’s needs, and when their bold proclamation bears fruit in the growth of God’s people.

Remembering Christ’s death si what he asked us to do. That is what is of primary importance.

Easter is a pagan holiday with many fertility symbols – eggs, chicks, rabbits, colors of spring for time of rebirth.

The first Memorial was with the eleven faithful apostles.

The Passover was held with the complete 12 apostles. And all faithful Jews of the land were also observing the Passover that same evening in different locations.

Once the Passover was complete, Judas left, and the ceremony we call the Memorial or the Lord’s Evening Meal was begun with the eleven.
