This sparked a debate between some of my friends this weekend when one claimed that they were ‘celebrating Easter’ last night and couldn’t join us. I know my family celebrates on Easter Sunday and so we have Saturday off, but now I’m curious to know what other families do. Easter celebrates the resurrection, so if you don’t believe in it, what do you celebrate? The Easter bunny? Chocolate?
(btw, I chose this section to ask the question because parents clearly have families and would understand what I’m getting at)
I worship chocolate and if a bunny is bringing me chocolate. heck I’ll worship him too.
I don’t celebrate, I just eat chocolate. My Son’s and their Christian Father, celebrate Easter, whilst I eat Chocolate

Basically people celebrate family time. It’s just another day for everyone to get together and spend time with one another because most people don’t have to work. Just like many people celebrate christmas and don’t believe in God/Jesus.

The Easter rituals we perform today have their roots in Pagen rituals. I personally dont do Easter but I do do Xmas. We celebrate life, love and family. Actually we do that through out the year.
Incidentally I do believe in God, just not some bearded man in a potato sack who push a rock and floated away. A bit intangible.

I am an atheist, but my partner is a christian. My son is only 1 atm, but he will be brought up as a christian, and will celebrate Easter as the Resurrection of Christ.
To me, a lot of people don’t see easter as the time when jesus was resurrected, and they see it as a day to eat chocolate eggs. just like people don’t see christmas as the "birthday" of jesus. They have become too commercialized

Actually, the Easter stuff about the Easter bunny and eggs is a pagan ritual to celebrate the beginning of spring and new birth, worshipping the goddess of fertility.
Early Christianity blended the pagan celebration with the celebration of Jesus in order to bring more converts into the religion.
So, there are many options for people to do bunnies and egg hunts even if the dont believe in God.
And then, even if you dont believe in any of it, its still nice to get together with your family and have fun.

I don’t believe in god personally,my husband does and my children are mixed beliefs so for us its about a chocolate egg and a nice meal.
I’m not about to be hypcritical and pretend i have any sentiment over the easter period because i don’t,its just fun to me.

We celebrate spring equinox, and the fertility of the earth. The ‘resurrection’ of the sun.
Was the tradition that was celebrated for centuries before it was replaced by the current holiday of Easter.
~EDIT~ by the way, I have a strong belief in God….I am just not a Christian.
