Why do Christians use the trappings of pagan festivals to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus when the Bible commands believers to avoid such things? Oh, by the way, HAPPY EASTER!
I was too young to … I was too young to know at first after all I didn’t think my parents would have me doing something like this, now I will be celebrating Hebrew Holidays.
Period its a pagan … Period its a pagan holiday. Christianity is widely know for plagiarism. And most the time. Everyday Christian don’t even know the whole story of the Easter holiday.
See organized religion is easy. You only have to know a tid bit of any of it. To say you believe. When truthfully. Most of the stuff in organized religion is stolen from pagan rituals.
“That’s just a … “That’s just a handful of passages that are contradicted by other passages.”
What pasages in particular? There are only a couple I can think of that look like contradictions, but they are not taken in context. The overwhelming majority of scriptures are clear that death means the end of existence. (Genesis 3:19; 2 Thessalonians 1:9) I don’t know any that talk about dung on your face.
That’s just a … That’s just a handful of passages that are contradicted by other passages. Every message in the bible is contradicted and supported at various points within itself.
Do not kill, but put homosexuals and unbelievers to death.
Hell is a place of fire and brimstone, eternal suffering where no one will wipe the dung from your face, but is a place where you go when you die without torture. Give me something that isn’t contradicted within the bible, and maybe i’ll take it seriously.
“you’re telling me … “you’re telling me that if i choose not to “know” jesus, i won’t go to ?”
Hell is just the grave where dead people are, good or bad. There is no torture there. Dead is dead. There’s no consciousness. (Psalm 146:3, 4;Ecclesiastes 9:4-10; John 11:11-14)
“What scripture do … “What scripture do you feel says that God tortures people for eternity for committing trivial sins even if they don’t know Jesus?”
So, you’re telling me that if i choose not to “know” jesus, i won’t go to ? Because by the nature of the question you’re asking, it seems you don’t believe I’ll go to .
It’s basically just a summarized statement of your religion? God created us. God created . God setup the system to send you to for sinning. Are you saying that’s wrong?
What makes a person a Christian is obediance to Christ.
The divisions and confusion that you mention were actually foretold by Christ and his disciples, so it’s expected. (Mark 13:22; 2 Tim 4:3, 4; 2 Pet 2:1)
What scripture do you feel says that God tortures people for eternity for committing trivial sins even if they don’t know Jesus?
No and they won’t … No and they won’t because they have been brainwashed over and over about god so they do not know how to give the answer to the question. Kind of like when you ask the computer robot a questions….”THAT DOES NOT COMPUTE!” and then the computer breaks down.
Um, god created … Um, god created , and the orchestration that people who commit even trivial sins without repenting, even if they don’t know who jesus is in the first place, will be tortured for eternity.
How does he NOT torture for eternity? The bible says he does, and if you don’t believe he does, then you are not christian.
Just the ones that … Just the ones that make the biggest stink. If you don’t want to be grouped with christians, why call yourselves christian? If so many factions of christianity put each other down or can’t even trust each other, for differences in belief preference, what’s that say about your “perfect, inerrant, and unequivocably clear religion?” When you say “i believe in this, because the bible is true” we have to ume that you believe everything else the bible has ever said, too. That’s how we can tell you.
I’m a little … I’m a little exhausted to read all the comments – but have any christians given an answer that doesn’t blindly ignore, or edit the passage itself to support their own case?
The subject is … The subject is questioning why “Christians” celebrate Easter. I’m just pointing out from scripture that the term “Christian” was a label given by men and does not imply that every person that might be called a “christian” is one who intends to fully put Gods word into practice (disciple). This might be an answer as to why some “christians” do celebrate Easter, although many are ignorant. Personally I don’t celebrate it for the reasons you mention, in fact I won’t even touch hot cross buns!
Acts 11:26 “…And … Acts 11:26 “…And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.” This verse does not say, “all called Christians in Antioch were disciples”. Same today.
“The sentence leads … “The sentence leads to a different reading of the passage; god is specifically prohibiting abominable acts as unlawful.”
One would do well to recall that the god of the Hebrew scriptures regarded the consumption of shellfish and pork to be abominable, so the abominable bar is very low.
Well, thank you. A … Well, thank you. A belated Happy Easter to you, too. Technically, I guess, it’s still the Easter season for Christians. If memory serves, Ascension Thursday is this week.
Mth, I hope you got … Mth, I hope you got enough sense to realize that the accretion of the Easter bunny to our celebrations is not on equal footing with child sacrifice as far as morality is concerned.
You forgot to type … You forgot to type a sentence between deutoronomy 12:30 and 32: Thou shalt not do in like manner to the Lord thy God. For they have done to their gods all the abominations which the Lord abhorreth, offering their children, and burning them.
The sentence leads to a different reading of the passage; god is specifically prohibiting abominable acts as unlawful.
