Christians, why do you celebrate Christmas?

Why do Christians use the trappings of a pagan festival to celebrate the birth of Jesus when the Bible commands believers to avoid such things?

It’s spelled pagan, and Christmas was based on a Christian saint. Find out for yourself why early depictions of Santa showed him carrying 3 bags of gold.

Christmas today is a ized holiday combining the rituals people found most popular.

    …in honor of …
…in honor of pegan rituals…many ppl decorate trees because its what they did as a family when they were little…many christians dont allow their kids to believe in santa because mmature adult christians know what it is all about. Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus, it doesnt matter when He was born, but that He was born. Thats why we celebrate, the gifts are only symbolic to the three kings who braught Jesus Gold, fankensece and Mur. So I hope I answered your question Mr. ProfMTH

    Well profMTH I’m …
Well profMTH I’m sorry that there are christians that asked you why you celebrated christmas if your not a christian, thats not very christian of them…but nontheless there are a plethora of holidays that came from pegan holidays. If you read up on your history most of them began to get the pegans to convert to christianity. Ppl in the old days figured if they incorperate pegan things in their religion it will get them to convert. Not the brightest idea, I know, but most ppl dont celebrate..

isnt christianity a combinatio of many other religions? but as you can see with christians they pick and choose what to follow. i have never come across 1 person who followed the bible to the letter. What i find odd is how they seem to think they can use their beliefs to judge others when they themselves dont even follow the bible correctly. its ing pathetic.

:-) Well, for a significant portion of my adult life as a believer, I was a member of a church that had a similarly inclusive position vis-a-vis gays and lesbians. While it didn’t have a float in the pride parade here, it did have a contingent marching in the parade every year. Thanks.

I just identify as Christian, though I do lean more liberal. Other members of my church do celebrate Christmas, so it’s more of a personal thing. I think you might even like my church. Our motto is Christian+Gay=OK, and we have a float in the San Francisco Pride Parade.
