Which is the last country to celebrate New Years Day?

I live in Vancouver, BC Canada. It is like just 5:40pm PST. So we have miles to go before Midnight. So are the West Coast’s of North and South America the last Continents / countries to celebrate New Years Day celebrations?
Which is the absolute first country to have their New Year’s Day parties?

I live in the U.S. so I’m by you, and yeah right now it is 5:40 here. Yawn, I have a long way to stay awake!!! Happy New Years! And I think China goes headfirst first into 2009.

Im sure the Aussie’s are always one of the first cos they’re like 12 hours ahead of us in the UK.

Im guessing its like when you see a flat map of the Earths layout, the right first and the left last?

    Could be wrong.

    Hello fellow Vancouverite. :)

Last year I was in Australia, celebrating in 42 degree weather (which DIDN’T cool down overnight, not a single degree, I thought I would die) a day ahead of all my friends back home. Not the first country, but on of them. I think New Zealand is first. How weird to be completely opposite this year.

    Happy New Years everyone!
