what have you always celebrated and what is new to this year.

eg. christmas for my family means giving..(not the birth of christ), a time for family.
we open "santa’s"(stocking stuffers) in the morning, eat a german/newfy style turkey dinner at 2 and open presents from under the tree at around 3.

cool, ive never heard of someone eating at 2 and then opening presents.

most people i know wake up at the crack of dawn and have presents opened and everything over by like 10 am, but ive never done that.

our christmases arent religous either, theyre more for family type stuff.
usually we have at least a few people over for christmas but this year it was pretty quiet, just my parents and siblings. we wake up, open stockings, then eat breakfast. then we usually start opening presents around noon.
we open presents slowly for some people. one person goes at a time so everybody can see what they got. presents are over around 4 -5 usually.

then therè`s te big christmas dinner and after that my dad always bringsout surprise giftsaround 10pm, which is just a little extra something for everybody to have.

but yeah, theres more but i wont make this run on any longer. hope you had a good christmas!

(ps. sometimes my mom would be working at the hospital on christmas day so then we would have to wait till 8:30pm to start everything! imagine what that was like, being a 9, 10 year old kid. but it was actually kind of fun doing everything at nighttime.)

How does your family celebrate Christmas, and what are your family traditions?

We have a huge family gathering at my Auntie’s place for lunch and dinner. She puts so much work into the food she makes. Awww :)

My husband and I usually open our gifts at home Christmas morning and then we go to my parents house and spend some time with them. Usually we go to my Grandmaws for christmas dinner.

We have one tradition that has stuck with my sister and I after growing up and moving out of the house. Every Christmas we always get at least 1 pajama item that gets opened on Christmas eve. Every since we were little Mom would buy us a pair of jammies or new slippers or something like that and after dessert we would get to sit around the tree and open our Christmas eve present. Then we would put them on and crawl on the couch with mom and she would read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas to us. My husband and I don’t read the story anymore, but we do watch a Christmas movie. It’s a tradition that I definitely intend to keep with my children.

Oh and I almost forgot, we also make sure to have a stocking every year. When we were kids my sister and I got to open our stockings while Dad was handing out the presents. My hubby and I always make sure to have a stocking, but we open it whenever since one of us passes out the presents.

what traditions do you celebrate at christmas? im doing a religion project and i was hoping some of you could list out traditions you do every year. my project is about why christians celebrates xmas so preferably very religious one thanks xx

during christmas eve,
we would first attend the 11:45 pm mass (i’m a roman catholic), by which at 12:00 am, the GLORIA will be sung. after the mass, we will have our "noche buena" or a past midnight celebration of eating very delicious desserts, and Maha Blanca and Iced Box cake or Mango Float are my favorite. Affluent families would always include hamonada or ham and of course the famous keso de bola or the red ball of cheese. in my part of the neighborhood, we would share our foods, and we would go house to house, carrying a plate of desserts and kiss everybody merry christmas. we would be sleeping by 2am but before going to bed, we would gather in front of our house altar to pray and thank God for everything. my family is deeply religious and i really find these moments moving. in the morning, we would have the ham for breakfast.

in the morning, we just enjoy each other’s company because by that time, everyone’s at home (a rare occasion); there’s no work.

at night, we would stroll around the park to watch at the lights and enjoy ourselves with popcorn and the loud music.

filipino tradition. i’m proud of it.

How do you celebrate Achoura? Any special traditions or rituals?

Well, first of all, it’s very recommandable to fast the day of Achoura, plus the day before or the day after. It’s also recommandable to pray and read verses of the Coran.
Kids get benefit from that celebration to get toys and new clothes from their arents and relatives, they also play with fireworks (not very wise) and water balloons. But Achoura is not a religious celebration like Aid kebir and Aid el fitr. It’s just a commemoration of the day when Moses and his followers flew from Pharaoh’s anger. It’s important to know that it’s both a muslim and a jewish celebration, this is to prove that Muhammas (PBUH) came to finish and correct the job already done by the previous prophets.

If you really are Christian why do you celebrate Pagan traditions such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween?

If you look into it those traditions you are celebrating are actually Pagan traditions. the church changed the name but all details are still pagan doing.

Changing the name does not make it right, A pine tree would not become a palm tree just because we named it so. God once said that we should not walk wth the other nations (what they are doing that are detestable/dirty in his eyes). These traditions are still dirty in his eyes right?

I believe celebrating these stuff is still pagan, you don’t pick a dirty candy from the gutter and eat it do you?
particularly for yellow_taxi: you should! December 25 is originally Saturnalia, the Roman summer solstice! Jesus would not have been born on a cold night like that.

Easter is a feast for the goddess Ashtare so’s the name….Jesus did not have bunnies and eggs when he rose from the dead, those were fertility symbol offered for the goddess.

This is for the last answerer that bashed the questioner. He admits that Jesus said to keep the Lord’s evening meal in remembrance of him.

The bible also says at 1 Corinthians 10;20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.

21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.

So we should all be well aware of where and how the traditions we celebrate came from. I hate to have to explain this , but Michael jackson disassociated himself from the witnesses a long time ago. His mother is one , but not his father. His actions are his own and perhaps the problem has been that he became so famous and the public turned him into a god , just like they did to elvis and other famous celebrities. You can bash any religion for what their members do, but as a whole the witnesses are law abiding , peaceful citizens who try to show a good example, not just for their preaching but for their actions too.

how did judaism spread throughout time and what are the traditions that jewish celebrate?

Posted by admin on October 10th, 2009 and filed under celebrate traditions | 3 Comments »

Outside of the ethnic Jewish population who spread their religion among the Judean city states primarily through conquest the Jewish religion hasn’t faired particularly well. Globally there are only around 14 million Jews.
