How do you celebrate Easter?

I volunteer @ a children’s home, I have a cook out with my family, I read a good book, watch the sunset while drinking a glass of my favorite wine & rejoice in the memories of all the beautiful things I’ve been allowed to experience.

Why do Non-Christians and Non-Practicing Christians think thet can celebrate Christmas and Easter?

Posted by admin on February 12th, 2010 and filed under celebrate easter | 31 Comments »

I really never understood the logic as to why most people that do not go to church, have no religious afffiliation, dispect god and his way feel they have the right to celebrate Christmas and Easter.

see YA! passim…. there were several hundred questions about this in november/december.

basically, I do not celebrate a religious holiday. I celebrate time with my family and a break from work.

I do not CARE if it’s called ‘Christmas’ or ‘Yule’ or even ’saturnalia’

I do not CARE if it’s called ‘Easter’ or ‘Oestre’ or even if its called ‘harry’s old socks’

Your petty religion does not interest me, I just like a party and presents and chocolate eggs

OK?

For Those Of You Who Celebrate Easter, What Special Meal Do You Prepare ?

AND….. Do You Hide Easter Treats and Make People Search For Them ?
Thanks everyone for answering, I usually resolve all my questions but I think I will put this one to vote. Enjoy your Easter meal and everyone you share it with :)
The meals all sound yummy !

Deviled eggs
Ham with savory cherry sauce
Potatoes au gratin
Asperagus
Green salad
Hot cross buns with lemon curd

Angel food cake
bunny-shaped truffles

I buy packs of edible flowers and garnish every dish and plate with them so the table is an explosion of flowers.

No searches in my house… my children are young and would get into everything and not share evenly. Maybe someday. I do buy take-home treats for all my guests.

Why do we celebrate Easter? And why is it all about finding eggs?

Posted by admin on December 28th, 2009 and filed under celebrate easter | 6 Comments »

I don’t get it. What’s with the whole Easter Bunny and egg hunting stuff? Why are we doing this stuff.

Most of the previous answers are partially correct. Easter was originally a pagan holiday like Christmas was. They celebrated the "new earth" (spring) and the birth of animal babies, etc. Eggs are a symbol of birth.

ALSO, Good Friday is the day that Jesus died, and Easter Monday is the day that he rose from the grave.

Jesus died shortly after Passover, which is just before Easter today.
Jesus told the diciples to remember his death and resurrection – so Easter is a big Holiday for Christians, and following the previous early Christian rituals, they used Pagan Holiday celebrations to use for this holiday to remember Jesus’s death and resurrection.

How should I celebrate my Easter, since I just found out about my cat?

Posted by admin on December 12th, 2009 and filed under celebrate easter | 2 Comments »

So, I just posted a question about my cat, and how long I should wait before I should think about getting another one. Well, I just found out this mornming, and it ruined my Easter. I have to go hang out with family later, how can I pep back up? Get Sprite off my mind?

well im guessing your cat died… im sorry, but the best thing to do is to listen to song that make you smile and laugh, a smile can fix all. Its ok to be sad too if you bottle it up its going to hit all the harder you don’t have to pretend that your happy, and remember easter is about jesus coming back to life…. maybe sprites real name is Jesus, you never know!

and i hope you are okay

Christianity and The Origins of Easter
Easter is the Christian holiday celebrating the resurrection of the Christian Messiah, Jesus Christ. The most important festival in the Christian calendar, Easter is celebrated on a Sunday between March 22 and April 25, depending how Lunar calendar corresponds to the Gregorian calendar in that particular year. Since the date of Easter changes each year, so too do the other Lenten festivals that fix their dates according to Easter, such as Ash Wednesday, Palm Sunday and Good Friday.

The story of Easter is one of persecution and rebirth, making it the central experience of the Christian belief system. On the Friday before Easter, Christians believe that Jesus was executed by crucifixion. His body is believed to have been removed from the cross and buried in a guarded cave, with a large boulder blocking the entrance.

Tradition continues that the following Sunday, Jesus’ gravesite was visited by faithful women-Jesus’ mother the Virgin Mary may have been among them-who discovered that the cave was empty. Later that day and for several days after, Jesus’ followers sighted him and came to believe that Jesus had been risen from the dead by God.

How do Copts usually celebrate their Easter in Egypt ??

Posted by admin on November 25th, 2009 and filed under celebrate easter | 3 Comments »

How would the Holy Week, and then Easter usually be celebrated ?

Easter:
Mass is held on the eve to mark the END of 55 days of fasting during which Copts follow a vegan diet (some may fast more vigorously). Copts spend their Easter going to church, visiting relatives and sometimes having a picnic.

Holy (Paskha) Week:
There are special services throughout the week, especially for Palm Sunday and Good Friday.
The celebration starts seven days prior to Easter but the main service takes place on Saturday evening, and lasts until early hours of the following day. The services consist of psalm reading, hymn singing, and burning of incense. During the ceremony all the lights are switched off, only to be turned on again in the moment symbolizing the Resurrection.

After the service, people go home to break their fast and savor their first meat dishes after almost two month of abstinence. There are about 210 fasting days in Coptic calendar.

How do Americans celebrate Easter?

Posted by admin on November 20th, 2009 and filed under celebrate easter | 7 Comments »

For example, here in the UK we exchange Easter (chocolate) eggs – mainly for women and children. Every shop on every corners sells them and every confectioner makes them. Are such eggs available in America and are they given out as presents widely or just by anglophiles? Is there a specific way Americans celebrate Easter in a non religious context?

In my experience, it’s not a big deal for adults except in the religious sense.

Kids wake up Easter morning to find a basket left by the Easter bunny, with candy and small toys in it. I always got a chocolate bunny in mine.

Then the kids go on a Easter Egg hunt. The Easter bunny hid the eggs you decorated the day before, and the kids have to find them all. No one actually "wins" the game, it’s just fun. Some folks use plastic eggs with small prizes in them instead of real hard-boiled eggs.
