If you really are Christian why do you celebrate Pagan traditions such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween?

If you look into it those traditions you are celebrating are actually Pagan traditions. the church changed the name but all details are still pagan doing.

Changing the name does not make it right, A pine tree would not become a palm tree just because we named it so. God once said that we should not walk wth the other nations (what they are doing that are detestable/dirty in his eyes). These traditions are still dirty in his eyes right?

I believe celebrating these stuff is still pagan, you don’t pick a dirty candy from the gutter and eat it do you?
particularly for yellow_taxi: you should! December 25 is originally Saturnalia, the Roman summer solstice! Jesus would not have been born on a cold night like that.

Easter is a feast for the goddess Ashtare so’s the name….Jesus did not have bunnies and eggs when he rose from the dead, those were fertility symbol offered for the goddess.

This is for the last answerer that bashed the questioner. He admits that Jesus said to keep the Lord’s evening meal in remembrance of him.

The bible also says at 1 Corinthians 10;20 No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons.

21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.

So we should all be well aware of where and how the traditions we celebrate came from. I hate to have to explain this , but Michael jackson disassociated himself from the witnesses a long time ago. His mother is one , but not his father. His actions are his own and perhaps the problem has been that he became so famous and the public turned him into a god , just like they did to elvis and other famous celebrities. You can bash any religion for what their members do, but as a whole the witnesses are law abiding , peaceful citizens who try to show a good example, not just for their preaching but for their actions too.

Which is the last country to celebrate New Years Day?

I live in Vancouver, BC Canada. It is like just 5:40pm PST. So we have miles to go before Midnight. So are the West Coast’s of North and South America the last Continents / countries to celebrate New Years Day celebrations?
Which is the absolute first country to have their New Year’s Day parties?

I live in the U.S. so I’m by you, and yeah right now it is 5:40 here. Yawn, I have a long way to stay awake!!! Happy New Years! And I think China goes headfirst first into 2009.

hi i’m 14. i am a muslim and verry faithfull. i do not celebrate chrismas. but if i like a song that has to deal with christmas, deos that mean i am not faithul. i like the christmas song that mariah carey sings, because of the beat, ect. i do not do anything dealing with christmas. should i not listen to this song? is it bad? =[

I like rap music, but that doesn’t mean I hate the police or objectify women.

Liking some music or art doesn’t change your beliefs or who you are. If you like the song, enjoy it.

what should i do for my birthday?i dont want to celebrate it with cake or anything?

i saw this cool bank thing, and i want it NOW what should i get if i get any thing i want????

For your birthday you don’t really need to spend much to have a great time. Try to have it in a skating rink or golf course. You could also have it in an arcade if you and your friends like to play games. Just be sure you have enough snacks and drinks for everyone. Start telling your friends and family the type of gifts you want now so they can buy them in time. If you need gift ideas you should check out this page. It has gifts specifically for teens http://www.giftgrease.com/teengifts.html You could also ask for a Ribbon e-gift card. It is a new type of gift that allows you to actually pick the gift you want online and it will be shipped to you for free.. It has alot brand-named merchandise that you will like. Here are the different types of cards you can ask for. http://www.giftgrease.com/ribbon-e-gift-cards.html I know birthdays are not all about gifts but it really makes things alot more memorable. Hope this helps.

Christians..if december 25 is not Jesus birthday..should we celebrate it?

i have mixed feelings about this..i think its great that people want to celebrate Jesus birth..its a great time to tell others about him,,and i love to hear all the music about him around Christmas time…but i also realise that its also about other things..commercial and well santa claus who is a lie? i have told my children the truth about him..and i love the lights , music and giving part..but i am worried that God will be angry at me if its some kind of idol worshipping or something…please only Christians reply..

There are two of us answering, here. She says that it doesn’t matter one bit. Jesus is nowhere near petty enough to care, just so long as we keep him right next to us. He cares far more that we "pray unceasingly". Jesus wants us to come to him with our joys and sorrows, our needs and our gratitudes. I think that it fits to remember Jesus’ birth at the time that we commemorate our own, every year, because isn’t that when his relationship with you, personally, began? I wholeheartedly agree with her answer.
