How many of you will celebrate a Vegan Xmas this year ?

Posted by admin on September 27th, 2009 and filed under celebrate events | 1 Comment »

Celebrating Jesus’ birth is about celebrating life! I will not allow my family to celebrate such an event (whether true or not) with the taking of a life. We will eat a vegetables and eat healthy. I want my children to grow up being individuals and not mindless followers.

I applaud your integrity and convictions.

We will have a vegan joining us this year, we almost always have several vegetarians in the crowd. I am looking for a good cookbook gift to give her, she is 15 and has been vegetarian for 2 years and just went vegan in the past few months.

I have a couple of vegan cookbooks I love and will make a few dishes that are friendly for her.

I am not Christian though, so the taking of a life does not have the same impact for me. It is acceptable in our faith.

help about chrismas presents!(more like 2 questions)?

My moms birthday was two weeks before chrismas. And my school was having a "greens sale" So i bought my mom a braclet for her birthday. should I still get ehr something for chrismas since I dont really want anything and im getting like 2 presents for chrismas. she is the type of person that doesnt really like celebrating birthdays or recieving gifts. Also my little 11 year old bro bought her SOCKS! SOCKS! Im really worried about what might happen. Someone help what I should do?

Yes, you should get her something for Christmas. It doesn’t need to be elaborate, but should have some thought behind it. If she doesn’t like presents, consider something like a coupon book. Have coupons in there for all sorts of things (a day with no arguing, a day with no complaining, an afternoon or evening of minding your brother so she can do something herself, hugs, baking cookies, cooking dinner, etc etc etc) and wrap it nicely. Is there any way you can get or make earrings that will go with that bracelet? That night be nice.

What is the difference between how Spain and Peru celebrate Day of the Dead?

What are the differences between how Spain and Peru celebrate Day of the Dead?
Like when is it celebrated and food they serve.

Thanks. :) !

Hi,
I’m peruvian… In Peru… the Day of the Dead (aka All Saints Day) is considered as a non-workable holiday. During this day, the families use to visit the cemeteries for a sort of "familiar meeting". There are no special foods or drinks. It’s just a day to seize remembering their gone families/friends/etc..

In Mexico, this day is more traditional… with special foods and souvenirs…

Cheers…

Isn’t it better to say that at Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ birthday, not Santa Clause!?

Posted by admin on September 27th, 2009 and filed under celebrate jesus | 10 Comments »

There is so many people that celebrate Christmas, not even thinking about the true meaning of it at all. Christmas is Jesus’ birthday, and we give gifts to each other just like the 3 kings brought to the crib…..Santa Clause is Saint Nicholas, and should be celebrated on December 7th. Do you agree?
Actually, I would like to correct myself. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. I am not sure, but I think that Jesus’ real birthday was in the spring….
Shame on you Miss "Why do you want to know?" To call me names like that. Obviously you couldn’t even read my entire statement before you had to write a nasty remark like that. You think you are so smart….watch out, your arrongance might come back to you and bite you in the butt one of these days.

Yes you are right Jesus was probably born sometime in the spring, because the shepards were tending there flock (Luke 2:8) but we really don’t know because God didn’t tell us; what Christ did for us is more important…. And He doesn’t tell us there were three wise men just three gifts! One of them could have brought two gifts… God also has said not to add to or take away anything from His word or He would add to him the plagues written in the [Bible] (Rev. 22:18) He also tells us that lying is an abomination to Him and so I don’t think you should put a lie into your childrens head….

If you celebrate Christmas, would you marry a Jewish person?

Posted by admin on September 27th, 2009 and filed under christmas celebrate | 9 Comments »

Just wondering what people’s opinions on this are. I’m not religious (I’m agnostic) but I celebrate Christmas and it’s my favorite holiday. However, my boyfriend is Jewish and this has never been a problem but we’re starting to talk about marriage now and issues about how to raise our future children are endless. His parents would want our future children to be raised Jewish, but like I said, I love Christmas and I want my future kids to celebrate Christmas. He doesn’t really know how he would want to raise them yet, but he said he would prefer they be Jewish. What would you do in this situation?

What is it about Christmas that matters to you? Is it just that you have happy memories from your own childhood and want your children to have the same? If it’s that, believe me, they will have many festivals in Judaism which will give them that sense of a special time that they’ll look forward to each year. Or is it the chance to spoil them rotten with presents? Well, you can do that too, but frankly you might prefer to duck out of the over-commercialisation of Christmas and it might be better for them in the long run.

Have you had a chance to celebrate any of the Jewish festivals with your boyfriend’s family? Purim, Sukkot, Hanukkah, Pesach – these are particularly good fun with children and all have their own special foods and exciting moments. And, more than that, they all are meaningful in ways that quite young children can pick up on and enjoy.

I’ve assumed you are not celebrating Christmas as a Christian holiday with baby Jesus and all that, as you say you’re an agnostic. But assuming you are talking about the whole thing of family being together, eating special food, enjoying each other’s company, an occasion that stands out – then Judaism can give you much, much more. And assuming you don’t want to convert (I think you’d have mentioned that if it was your intention), rest assured that non-Jews are usually very welcome to participate in all but the most Orthodox contexts.

do atheiests celebrate the same holiday christians do?

like christmas, for example.do atheists celebrate it?it’s about celebrating Jesus’ birth, right?

do atheists have the same holiday schedule as chirstians?

I celebrate christmas, but it’s not about Christ, it’s about getting together with my family, exchanging presents and eating good food.

Easter, not so much. If I happen to be near my mum’s house then I might go over for some food as we’ll both have time off work…but otherwise, no, don’t really celebrate it.

In my country we don’t even use the word Christmas. We celebrate Yule.

How do Christians in the Middle East Celebrate Easter?

Please include rituals, food you eat and its symbolism, church and family traditions.

Happy Easter Everyone!

well the celebrations started one week ago with the Palm Sunday celebration where the kids wear new cloths and carry big decorated candles and hold olive tree branches and we clebrate Mass at church.
Today, Thursday is a big day too, this is the day before Jesus was handed over, tonight is the night of the last supper where Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and then told them the "secrets"…so today in Lebanon we go to visit 7 churches (symblising the 7 secrets of the Church)
Tomorrow is Good Friday…we don’t eat meat at all and fast until noon…then we go to the Passion Mass at 3 pm
Saturday, at noon, all churches ring their bells and people congratulate each other saying "Jesus has risen" and then we paint eggs
Sunday we take the painted eggs and hide them and the kids find them and hatch them…we go visit relatives and friends…attend the Mass…eat maamoul and chocolate
Monday is a holy day too…same as Sunday

Why do non-christians celebrate christians events?

Posted by admin on September 25th, 2009 and filed under celebrate events | 10 Comments »

valentines day, easter, christmas etc.
CAN I JUST SAY THAT CHRISTMAS WAS WHEN JESUS WAS BORN, EATER WAS WHEN HE ROSE AND VALENTINE IS A SAINT, SO DON’T TELL ME THEY ARE PAGEN HOLIDAYS!!
thank you for a great response, no one can prove when jesus was born bit that does’nt matter the point is we celebrate his birth at christmas.
i didnt say anything about the easter bunny or santa claus or cupid, those characters are just there for the non-christians.
dont you understand we have choclate egg and christmas tress as symbols why do hindus or whatever have fireworks

Valentines day is not a Christian event, lol…but non-Christians can celebrate what they choose and really, they do not have to give a reason to anyone.

What traditions to you have to celebrate a child’s birthday?

Posted by admin on September 25th, 2009 and filed under celebrate what | 7 Comments »

My son is turning one today and we had his birthday party yesterday to celebrate. Him and I are going to spend the day together and go to the park today, but I also want to start some birthday traditions, but haven’t been able to come with any ideas. What are some of your birthday traditions for your kids?

My parents took me to the movies. When I was younger, we all went to Chucky Cheese’s. I also remember going to the park to fly a kite or just walk around. If I had a child, I’d do a simple treasure hunt around the house for toys for my child. Something fun that we could do together.
